Seldon appoints Herb Cunitz as Chair of the Board

Seldon is delighted to announce the appointment of our new Chair of the Board, Herb Cunitz. Herb will be responsible for guiding Seldon in continuing to hit major growth milestones, supporting our executive team in our scaling up and global expansion efforts, and helping the company to capitalise on new market opportunities as they arise.

With Seldon’s ambitious global expansion plans firmly underway, Herb’s support will be critical in ensuring we can continue to keep up the momentum. Herb will be guiding our board and executive team through Seldon’s scale-up journey, helping us to bring Seldon’s technology to new partners and customers across the globe, while developing Seldon’s narrative and networks as we look to hire and build new connections in the US market and beyond.

Herb comes to us with an ideal background to help Seldon to achieve all of these goals. From 2012 to 2016, Herb was the President of Hortonworks, where he was responsible for scaling the company’s commercial open source software (OSS) solution to manage big data workloads. Under Herb’s stewardship, Hortonworks achieved $250m in revenue, and achieved a valuation of $1bn+ after its IPO in 2014.

Alongside his past experience building an OSS unicorn at Hortonworks, Herb also has excellent experience in running boards. Herb was a member of the Core OS board through its acquisition by Red Hat in 2018, and is currently a board member at Yotascale, a cloud cost management company that recently secured a Series B fundraising round.

Behind the scenes, Herb has already been covering a lot of vital ground with the Seldon team in discussing the state of the market and helping us plan ahead to make 2022 a groundbreaking year for the team. With Herb’s expertise in enterprise technology and OSS, his strong reputation, and experience in working with rapidly-scaling companies, he’s the perfect partner to accelerate our mission to reshape the future of MLOps.

Commenting on his appointment, Herb Cunitz, Chair of the Board of Seldon, said:

“Seldon’s proven open source technology is now propelling the company to be one of the biggest success stories in machine learning and enterprise technology. I’m looking forward to working with the team and providing my counsel to help Seldon navigate its global breakthrough. I’m honoured to be working with Alex and the leadership team during this period; it’s so exciting to have a front-row seat in seeing one of the world’s most innovative tech companies go from strength to strength.”

Commenting on the appointment, Alex Housley, CEO and Founder of Seldon, added:

“I’m delighted to have Herb as a key part of the Seldon team. His expertise is going to be invaluable in the months ahead as we continue our global expansion and connect with many more new partners and customers. Having an industry veteran like Herb join us – following his own extensive experience working with open source unicorns and industry leaders – is also a huge vote of confidence for our team, and the success of our mission to accelerate the adoption of ML to improve business performance and manage risk.”
